Blabber Mouths

Please explain to me, world wide web of people, how you can tell someone “Do NOT say anything to (so-and-so), but” and the first fucking thing they do?  Yup.  Run and tell So-and-so what you said.  My “friendship” with Craig is wearing thin.  Very, very thin.

Settle in and let me tell you a little nugget of a story

M has been wanting to get a new job for AGES.  He is so fed up with his current company, and I could go into all the specifics of why and how they suck but that would REALLY take up too much time, so to put it in a bottom line they do not care about their employees one bit and are big assholes.  He told me about a guy he used to work with who works for a different company (same industry installing countertops) and this guy has been calling/texting/facebooking M for days telling him to come into his company and interview because they desperately need people.  M finally gets off early enough to stop by there on his way home and has an interview.  He thought it went great.  Three days go by before he hears from them and they want him to be a delivery driver two days a week.  (Just so you understand, M has 10 years experience in countertop installation.  To be a delivery driver is a HUGE step down for him, not to mention two days a week vs. five days a week installing.)

Something about this scenario doesn’t sit right with me.  Why would someone BEG M to come interview because they’re “desperate” for workers, but then offer him a delivery position for part time?  My honest thought is that they offered him much less than he’s making now and he turned them down, but doesn’t want to tell me that thinking that I’m going to be mad at him.  You’d have to really know M to understand how plausible this possibility is.

Craig knew that M applied for this new job, and Craig asked me last week if M got the job.  I told Craig, and I AM quoting here “Do NOT tell M this, but I think they offered him much less than he’s making now and he turned them down so he told me they offered him a delivery position instead.”  I then went on to explain to him why I thought this and repeatedly told him, “Do NOT tell M that I said any of this.”  More than once, more than twice; at a MINIMUM I said it 4 times.

M called me as I was getting into my car Wednesday after work and the very first thing he said to me was “So I hear that you think I’m lying to you about the job.”  FUCK.  I’m going to FUCKING kill Craig.  I had to smooth ruffled feathers and twist what I’d said so that it didn’t sound so bad.  I know you should be able to tell your spouse/significant other everything, but that’s just not always possible.  How could I tell M that I didn’t believe him when I thought that he was changing the story because he was ashamed?  He would have been devastated if he thought that I believed that he couldn’t provide for us.  Which isn’t the case, but that’s what it looks like.

I’m fucking done with Craig.  I’ve been waiting to see him here at the office so I could lay into him about keeping his fucking mouth shut when he’s asked to, but of course because he’s no longer in the office anymore (at least until mid-December) because he’s on a jobsite during working hours I don’t see him regularly anymore, and he hasn’t been in the office since before Wednesday.  And I can’t say anything to him at bowling tonight because M will be there and I can’t have him know that I did actually tell Craig that I thought he was lying about the job.  Having had to smooth ruffled feathers and all

I will say this though; there will be no more covering for the Asshat with the boss anymore.  Craig always has “meetings” in which he has to leave early and doesn’t return.  However, if you happen to call him while he’s supposedly “in transit” you can hear either A) his dog barking in the background.  B) Beth’s mother in the background.  C) Katelin in the background.  So, since Craig can’t keep a secret to save his life neither can I.

Fight fire with fire and all that crap
