(I wrote this last night but then couldn't get my computer to connect to the internet to post it. Happy Sunday, Everyone! I'm off to watch Pre-Season Football! It's the only time I get to watch and ask questions, and M doesn't want to throw the remote at me!)
I hate it when I get all excited about something and then I realize that the age old adage “nothing in life is free” smacks you in the face! I was messing around on the computer, because I’m bored as hell this afternoon, and found this site where you can supply a copy of your own handwriting and they’ll turn it into a font. So I got all stupid giddy thinking that I could create a font that looks like my handwriting – YAY! I went through the whole thing of writing down the alphabet in both caps and then in lower case, writing 0 – 9, and all sorts of symbols, writing the sentence “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” several times so they had a sample of my actual handwriting, etc. I get it all done and scroll down for instructions on how to send it to them (should have done this first!) and I realize that they have so many samples sent to them on a daily basis they absolutely cannot get them all done and it’s a crap shoot as to which ones they chose to create fonts for. Le Sigh…
Well I spent all this time writing it out I may as well send it. I figure it’s at least got a 50/50 chance of making it into a font I can use. However, they list a website where you can automatically get a sample of your font. So I click over there and get so excited about getting a font – again – that I don’t bother checking the entire site first. One would think I’d learn but apparently I like to be disappointed! I printed out their template, filled it out with everything including the crazy copywriters symbol and others similar, scan it, submit it, and my sample font comes up! YAY! I love it! It looks just like my handwriting! I click on “download” – and I have to pay $10. LE SIGH!!! I’m not shelling out moola for my own handwriting. Not that someone who creates a font based on my handwriting doesn’t deserve money because I’m sure that it’s not easy to do (Duh, or I’d have figured it out already!) but this website came up with my handwriting within 1 minute! Do they have a little dude inside my scanner/computer whipping this shit out?!
I think I’m going to go open a bottle of wine and see if I can find a way to do this myself! Wish me luck!!!
(I haven't yet been able to figure out how to make my own font, but I did manage to empty two bottles of wine during the course of the evening. Oh my...)
